Types of plant

On the basis of shape and size, plants can be divided into the following types:

  1. Trees
  2. Shrubs
  3. Herbs
  4. Climbers
  5. Creepers

Trees

Big and Strong plants are called trees. They have a hard and woody stem, called the trunk. Trees live for many years. Trees like Gulmohar, banyan, neem, peepal, and mango have many branches. Trees like coconut and palm do not have branches.


Shrubs

Shrubs are small plants. They are smaller than trees. They have many thin and woody branches that grow close to the ground. They look like a bush. They also live for many years. Mehandi, cotton, china rose, jasmine, and rose ae shrubs.


Herbs

Herbs are very small plants. They have thin, green, and soft stems. They live for a few months. Mustard, mint, coriander, spinach, water lily, and aloe vera are herbs.


Climbers

Climbers have weak stems. They cannot stand straight. They need support to grow straight. Pea plants, bean plants, grapevine, and money plants are climbers.


Creepers

Creepers grow along the ground. They cannot stand straight because they have very weak stems. Pumpkin, watermelon, and cucumber are creepers.


Parts of a plant

A plant has many parts. They are roots, Seeds, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits.

  5. Flowers
  6. Fruits

Root:  it grows under the ground. It fixes the plant to the soil. It takes water and minerals from the soil.

Stem:  it grows above the ground. It carries food and water to all parts of the plant.

Leaf:  it is the flat green part of the plant. It makes food for the plant.

Flower:  it is the most beautiful part of the plant it changes into a fruit.

Fruit:  it is a fleshy part of a plant that grows from the flower. It has seeds inside it.

Seed:  it is found inside the fruit. A seed grows into a baby plant.
